Venue: Globe - Daniel, architect in a successful architecture office, comes home late again and asks if there is anything to eat. His wife Sibylle, a doctor and just as successful in her field as Daniel, is annoyed: She has already eaten with the children who have eagerly awaited their father and are now in bed. She is also not responsible for Daniel's diet. While she is trying to watch a documentary about a famous doctor, he warms up the remaining lasagna and disturbs her with unqualified questions. The atmosphere is irritable. That's when Daniel's cell phone rings. As it turns out, it is Franziska, his ex-girlfriend, who calls him because she needs a place to sleep for the night. Franziska is significantly less educated than Daniel and Sibylle and has always worked in a pet store. She has apparently broken up with her boyfriend and is asking if she can stay with them. Daniel says no, after all, he and Sibylle have to work early the next morning. But a little later, it rings. Franziska is standing in the door. What does she want with her ex-boyfriend in the middle of the night? Why did she ignore Daniel's rejection and show up anyway? With the arrival of Franziska, questions suddenly arise that have been more or less successfully swept under the table so far: Who actually calls the shots in Daniel and Sibylle's relationship? Where does the poison in their relationship come from? Why were Daniel and Franziska, who are so unequal, ever a couple? And what happened back then anyway? Why did Daniel leave Franziska? Why is Sibylle still with him? Who is telling the truth? And who lies to whom about what?
Marius von Mayenburg's bitterly angry new piece explores how far you can ever trust yourself in a relationship, and whether there is still such a thing as professional barriers today. Are love and passion not more important than social background? It stars Eva Meckbach, Sebastian Schwarz and Marie Burchard, who returns to the Schaubühne ensemble with this role.
