“Extravaganza. The best of” plays in two parts for 150 minutes with a break. Elżbieta Wegrzyn led the nine-person company, made up of Polish actors, who would certainly have been hired by David Lynch and Bertolt Brecht if they were offered to prepare a cabaret. She was as compelling as Joel Grey's avatar as she was as a ladybug. Mateusz Wiśniewski was delicious — his number about masters of procrastination entitled “Future Us” is one of the best fragments, a demonstration of the natural predisposition of an actor skillful like an illusionist. Wiśniewski has this “something”, as does one of the favorites of the Poznań audience Piotr B. Dąbrowski, whose BDSM monologue about Poland is one of the most convincing love and patriotic confessions ever (smile). The vocal lead was Kornelia Trawkowska, who in “Vagina” wittily and so convincingly gave a singing lecture on the title topic that for a moment I felt like I was in a vagina (the office of the director of the Drama Theater in Warsaw). Trawkowska (a tanatocosmetologist) and Dąbrowski (Pope's Second Secretary Mieczysław Mokrzycki) played a moment earlier in “The Death of John Paul II” — it's just an all-round extravaganza!

Joanna Drozda, the director and co-author of the scripts (together with Jędrzej Burszta and Wojciech Kaniewski), is most responsible for the whole project. Drozda continues the family traditions, but in a very different aesthetic from the program “Tea at Tadka”. “Extravaganza” consciously uses the tradition of literary cabaret, but the whole thing is strongly twisted as in the cover of “Drama in the allotment gardens”. Sometimes it is thick, but not greasy for a while. It is spicy, but the next day there are no symptoms like after consuming habanero. First of all, it is witty. It is also local and political, and the general message contained in the finale: “We don't want to fight, we want to kiss” sounds especially and demonstrative these days.

“Extravaganza” under the aegis of the Polish Theater is more than a cabaret. It is an enviable culture-creating urban ferment. The level of wit, taste and moral courage seems impossible to achieve in many places in Poland.

Intellectual flirting, sadomasochistic irony, an orgy of laughter and glitter of sequins, all this we find in “Extravaganza the best of”. It is the wildest and most rude play of the Polish Theatre in Poznań. Tucked away in basements, it tempts, seduces and pulls you to the very bottom, stimulating the senses and driving you crazy. Figure skating, trained goats, director Nowak, talking vagina, are just a few of the elements of the freak show that is “Extravaganza the best of”.
