A colourful musical story about the state of the world
“The Plague” by Albert Camus is one of the most important novels of the 20th century. The metaphor of a city overrun by a deadly disease and engulfed in plague gangrene is a crippling figure and a poignant message.
Wojciech Kościelniak, perhaps the most famous contemporary composer of musicals in Poland, reached for a text that may seem too dark to sing. However, the idea turns out to be extremely accurate, and the script - fantastic. Existential questions sound here in the form of songs, and dance expresses hope. Maybe it is music and singing that allow us to tell a better story of suffering, but also of hope for the future? We invite you to an unusual theatrical evening, during which not everything will turn out as we tried to imagine - this interpretation of “The Plague” seduces and moves!
“Because the musical 'Plague' is an interpretive matryoshka. Beautiful from the outside — musically, scenographically, in costumes, choreographically, in acting — but dazzling only when successive layers of text are discovered, symbols referring to the thoroughly contemporary world, diagnoses painfully accurate and emotions repressed even in front of those closest to them. (...) There are such performances that overwhelm and drive you into the chair. They captivate musically, actorily and lyrically to the point that one desperately tries to remember as much as possible or to return as soon as possible. “The plague” is one of them.”
