The most important questions asked anew
When we hear the name William Shakespeare, one of the first titles that comes to mind is “Hamlet”. The masterpiece of the Elizabethan theater, which entered the canon of world literature invariably delights and intrigues the creators.
“Hamlet” directed by Jan Marek Kamiński takes place in a world torn from metaphysics — materialistic, degenerate, posthumanist. It is the drama of a young man on whom falls the burden of responsibility for a reality of which he does not feel part. The director introduces the viewer into a disturbing world, which is a collage of eras, video projections and ubiquitous multimedia. The title character is tired, and the reality around him is what the generation of creators of the show sees today. We present a beautiful, at the same time full of humor, irony and grotesque vision of “Hamlet”, which at first surprises, but from stage to stage is more and more captivating, fascinating and says a lot about what is happening around us today.
How does being a separate world, a penetrating entity, affect its functioning? And although you can't see the castle walls, don't we live in digital fortresses today? We invite you to an unusual interpretation of Shakespeare's classic drama!
Gniezno's “Hamlet” is an interesting, bold and provocative interpretation of Shakespeare's work, which deconstructs the classic text and requires the viewer to go beyond the traditional approach to familiar drama. The show addresses contemporary themes of fear of war and technological dehumanization. First of all, it shows the drama of a tortured man who has to face an absurd reality and forces us to reflect sadly on the condition of today's young generation. A very successful combination of a timeless work with the current problems of a digitized and uncertain world”.
