In this hands-on workshop you will be introduced to the origins of Fair Isle knitting as a heritage craft, and learn the traditions and techniques used to create multi-coloured Fair Isle knitting patterns in your knitting projects.
This workshop is for anyone interested in learning Fair Isle knitting in a supported environment, and has a smaller group size to allow time for one-on-one guidance and advice.
You will leave this workshop with a solid understanding of how to read, follow and keep track of a Fair Isle chart, the technical elements required to create two stranded colour work, and your own sample of Fair Isle knitting using charts provided. You will also be signposted to Fair Isle projects to make in time for Christmas!
Required materials:
At least 2 contrasting colours of yarn in the same weight
A set of doubled pointed knitting needles, or circular needles for the magic loop method, that are appropriately sized for your yarn
Stitch markers
Alternatively, there will be some materials available to purchase on the day, and you’ll be able to get everything you need for under £10.
Please note: This workshop is for confident beginners and above. We will be knitting samples in the round, as is traditional in Fair Isle knitting, so to join this workshop you will need to be able to cast on and knit in the round on double pointed needles or using the magic loop method.
