What would happen if Manuel de Falla's scores were re-read today, in the 21st century, by a musician unconstrained by any style and at the same time respectful of tradition?
The answer to this question is the project “FALLA imagined” by Moisés P. Sánchez, one of the most original creators of the European music scene. The Spanish pianist, composer and arranger invites you to rediscover — this time from a contemporary perspective — the sophisticated and contrasting legacy of the great composer from Cádiz.
In an author's project prepared on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla's birth (1876 — 1946), Sánchez treats Falla's works as a living and artistic matter, re-reading them not only in the key of classical music, but also through the prism of jazz, French impressionism, modern harmony,
and even... symphonic rock, while retaining the essence of the original.
Falla's works became for Sánchez the starting point for free arrangements, characterized by a wealth of harmonic and structural nuances. The concert program includes both iconic compositions, such as El amor brujo, and
and lesser-known and rarely performed works, such as Mazurka or Nocturno.
Improvisation is organically embedded in the musical narrative. Together with two internationally renowned artists — violinist Ana María Valderrama and double bassist Pablo Martín Caminero — Moisés P. Sánchez creates a dialogue that results in a lively and evocative concert, showing both the Spanish and her more abstract, European side of Falla's fascinating work.
