The FELICE NOWO project consists of jazz variations on the themes of selected works by Felix Nowowiejski.
There will be a trio composed of the absolute leading Polish jazz musicians, who are associated with the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow on a daily basis: Tomasz Kudyk — trumpet (prof. dr hab., leader of the New Bone formation, composer and arranger) Maciej Adamczak — double bass (dr hab., esteemed pedagogue and instrumentalist, Mateusz Pałek — piano (PhD in musical arts, outstanding pianist of the younger generation, recipient of the Krakow Jazz Zaduszek Scholarship “Hope of Polish Jazz 2024”), collaborating with Janusz Muniak, Piotr Baron and Bester Quartet.
What is “Felice Novo”?
The title of the project is not accidental. Felice Novo is the nickname with which the young Feliks Nowowiejski was given by his master, Max Bruch, during his studies in Berlin — these words signified appreciation for the freshness and exceptional inventiveness of the Polish composer. The project was born at the end of 2025 from the inspiration of the Opole Philharmonic (ImproKlasyka series) and is an attempt to find in music the former master of joy (felice) flowing from creative freedom and jazz improvisation. It is a partially improvised musical experiment in which interaction on stage becomes the overriding value and the classics take on a new, fascinating face.
The program included excerpts from oratorios “Quo vadis”, “Finding the Holy Cross”, “Missa pro pace” masses and vocal, organ and piano pieces.
