A theatre evening with Ferdinand von Schirach

About the event

With “DER STILLE FREUND”, Ferdinand von Schirach brings to the stage an evening that goes far beyond classic reading formats. Between skilful narration, reflection and existential observation, which have made Ferdinand von Schirach one of the most important European authors of the present day, a literary theatre evening unfolds about friendship, guilt, hope, memory and the fragility of the human being.

Der Spiegel described him as a “great narrator,” the New York Times as an “exceptional stylist.” His works are published in over forty countries, have been filmed many times and are among the most discussed literary voices of our time. Plays such as “Terror” or “God” sparked global debates, because Ferdinand von Schirach manages to combine entertainment and intellectual acuity in a rare way.

“THE SILENT FRIEND” is also no ordinary literary evening. It is a concentrated, atmospheric stage moment. Personal, philosophical and at the same time surprisingly accessible. An evening for everyone who not only wants to read literature, but also wants to experience it.
Guntbert Warns, director of the Renaissance Theatre, talks about the renewed collaboration:
“The fact that Ferdinand von Schirach is returning to Renaissance theatre for further appointments with his new book 'Der Stille Freund' after such successful performances of 'Rain' really fills me with pride as artistic director. For us, this connection is a strong sign that trust and mutual respect in theatre are still effective today.
Especially in times of economic uncertainty for many cultural sites, such partnerships are invaluable. They give us planning security and artistic support. For me, the fact that an author and artist like Ferdinand von Schirach so consciously chose our house is a clear commitment to the importance of our theatre — as a place of encounter, reflection and shared experience. An expression of great trust and an important confirmation of our artistic work. ”
