Charles Ives, the father of classical American music, composed experimentally — his music is full of fresh ideas and surprising solutions, but there is no consistent method. He liked to turn to popular and traditional music — in Trio for violin, cello and piano, the songs function as literal quotations, which soon become the threads of a complex, beautiful in its freedom of narrative. Ives' work will merge with Beethoven's charming Allegrett in a piece by Birke Bertelsmeier, which is their contemporary echo.
The relationship between Beethoven and Archduke Rudolf Habsburg, bishop of Olomouc, was long-standing and close. The composer first taught the young aristocrat to play the piano, and later Rudolf became one of his most important patrons. It was for him that the Missa solemnis or the Hammerklavier sonata were composed, as well as the Trio Op. 97, a masterpiece of the genre.
