“Za kořeny spiritismu” (In Search of Spice Spiritualism), dir. Jan Řehák, Czech Republic, 2017, 21'
“Za kořeny spiritismu” by Jan Řehák is a documentary film devoted to the history and phenomenon of the Czech spiritualist movement. The director presents his development, social and cultural conditions and related practices and forms of expression. A special place is occupied by mediumistic art, which is a testimony to the interpenetration of spirituality, imagination and creativity. The film is an attempt to approach a little-known cultural phenomenon and a reflection on the superhuman need to seek contact with the non-material world.
Guest: Piotr Gierowski, PhD - Polish literary scholar and bohemian, associated with the Institute of Slavic Philology of the Jagiellonian University. In his scientific work, he deals, among others, with the phenomenon of art brut and outsider art in the Polish-Czech context.
Conducted by: Sonia Wilk - co-curator of the exhibition “Flowers of Other Worlds”, head of the Department of Non-Professional Art at the Silesian Museum.
