“Children of Warsaw, we will go to battle,
For every stone of yours, O Capital, we will give blood!
Children of Warsaw, we will go to battle,
When Your command is fulfilled, I will incur the wrath of my enemies.”
The above piece, written jointly by Stanisław Ryszard Dobrowolski and Andrzej Panufnik, recorded especially for the underground radio station “Błyskawica”, is one of the most famous insurgent slagers. Along with other songs created in the need of the moment, it was supposed to warm the Poles to fight against the occupier.
What are the stories behind the creation of the most famous insurgent songs? How did the fate of their creators turn out? What theme prevailed in the songs “to comfort the hearts”?
The Memorial Hall invites you to a meeting dedicated to the songs of the Warsaw Uprising.
The meeting will be complemented by listening to excerpts from the most famous songs of the Uprising.
The meeting will be led by Szymon Smolnicki-Woźniak, cultural and film expert, head of the Chamber of Remembrance.
