About the event

For the third time, the Mazovian Museum in Płock is taking part in the Festival of Culture Without Barriers — a nationwide event that encourages the joint discovery of culture and art. The elderly, the younger, families with children, people with special needs, regulars and new participants — all are welcome at the festival events!

This year we invite you to the “Art of Silence” — a meeting during which you will be able to slow down for a moment, breathe and look at art from a slightly different perspective.

11:00 — 12:45: MEDITATION WORKSHOP

To begin with, we invite you to a practical Zen meditation workshop, which will be led by Grzegorz Piaskowski, meditation teacher from the Płock Zen Group and author of the exhibition “Art of the Far East. Płock treasures of Buddhist Asia”, presented in the Granary — Ethnographic Department of the MMP.

During the meeting we will learn the basics of meditation and try both sitting and walking practice. It is not necessary to have previous experience - all you need is curiosity and willingness to try.

The meeting will take place in the hall of the Mazovian Museum in Płock, in the Art Deco building at 6 Kolegialna Street — in a space without architectural barriers.

People who travel in wheelchairs and those who cannot sit on the floor for a long time will be able to participate in the practice in a way that is tailored to their needs.

Number of seats: 25 people. It is worth wearing comfortable, loose clothing.

13:00 — 13:25: A TALE OF ART AND MEDITATION

Grzegorz Piaskowski will talk about the relationship between art and meditation in the Buddhist tradition. We will look at selected works from the museum's collection and consider what they can tell us about mindfulness, focus and working with the mind.

13:30 — 14:00: A MOMENT OF SILENCE WITH THE SOUNDS OF THE HANDPAN

At the end we will meet the music of the handpan. Tomasz Araucz, from Płocca, athlete and passionate about playing this unique instrument, will invite us to listen to his unusual, deep sounds.

The music will be accompanied by a subtly animated presentation of paintings and woodcuts - their movement and changing frames will create a visual setting for the meeting.

We invite everyone who wants to slow down for a moment and immerse themselves in the experience of image, sound and breath.
