Young, direct and extremely independent, Xu Ke is a teacher who seems to have everything under control. At least until an unexpected incident occurs during a school competition. In the hospital, the girl learns that she needs to undergo a minor gynecological procedure, but a seemingly simple diagnosis leads to an absurd odyssey around the doctor's offices.

The reason? Xu Ke is a virgin, and the doctor does not agree to the operation without the written consent of the family. As if that were not enough, her eccentric mother fleeing marital problems moves into the girl's small apartment without notice. In the new configuration, the relationship of both women is put to the test. Intergenerational tensions, however, become the beginning of an important lesson, during which it is the daughter who teaches her mother that living on her own terms is “all right.”

Yang Lina's latest film is a tender and humorous picture of the female experience, of trying to break with life dictated by someone else's expectations. The director freely looks at the topic of female corporeality, telling about it in an unforgiving manner, painfully sincere and not reaching for any half-measures. (Lucyna Szczykutowicz)
