David Zuazola & The Impossible Theatre Union (Chile/Poland) — The Walker
Long ago people were free and traversed the world, creating together, merging and parting, traveling, settling and leaving behind seeds in each newly discovered land. They shared knowledge, myths, stories, fears and joys, new ideas and discoveries.
Long ago, people spread around the world, knowing no borders other than winters and summers, mountains, rivers and seas, deserts and wetlands, jungles and swamps. Until the day came when people erected walls.
The Walker is a journey to salvation, telling the story of thousands of people forced to flee the cruelty of armed conflict. People like you and me who lived peacefully in their homes until suddenly, without any warning, they had to flee to survive.
These thousands of people embody the “Wanderer”, the protagonist of this tortuous and difficult journey, full of obstacles but also of hope, that leads migrants to new worlds where modernity, peace, justice, human rights and equality are destined to transform their lives. Unfortunately, society is not what it seems.
The show is about something that unfortunately happens right next to us, while as a society we do, it seems, very little. With the help of poetic means, the creators try to show the horror of war and the fate of people wandering from place to place without being sure that they will still be alive the next day. Worst of all, it is also how our “modern” society closes its doors to them.
