FFM26 - Notre Salute

The year is 1940 and Henri Marre (Swann Arlaud from the Gold Palm winner 'Free Fall') has just arrived in Vichy. He has no money or contacts, but in his suitcase he carries copies of his self-published, patriotic writing 'Notre salut' (Our Salvation). Determined to take advantage of regime change to secure the position he has always wanted, Henri gradually becomes part of the apparatus of the collaborationist government—unaware that his career ascent is inextricably linked to moral decay. Emmanuel Marre, who won the Best Screenplay award at Cannes for the film, paints an icy and hurtful contemporary portrait of opportunism. Without depicting the brutality of war itself, he lays bare the depraved soul that helps shape the evils of history.
