Evolutionary Figuration — Opening of Michał Kakuszke's Painting and Drawing Exhibition
(The exhibition will last until November 17)
Evolutionary figuration is the record of the return to form and its continuous transformation. The juxtaposition of oil painting with drawing shows a fragment of Michał Kakuszke's completed creative process — from the first, smooth gesture in the drawing to the multi-layered, fleshy painting tissue.
These works are stories about a man stripped of literalism, whose silhouette, and sometimes also character, become an excuse to study his own emotions and the limits of artistic expression.
Michał Kakuszke, painter (born 1984) in Nakle nad Notecią. Graduated from PLSP in Bydgoszcz. Finalist of the VLI of the Leon Wyczółkowski National Painting Competition. After a break of twenty years, he returned to painting with a mature, uncompromising vision.
At the center of his art is the human figure. Subjected to deconstruction and psychological deformation. Drawing on classic portrait motifs, Kakuszke collides saturated, expressive color with the dense, fleshy structure of the paint. The most important for him becomes the creative path itself, the intuitive process in which the finished work is a record of time, emotional tension and pure painting matter.
