Finding Andrew | film screening and meeting with Sebastian Płocharski

Finding Andrew, directed by Bryan Bruce, New Zealand/Ukraine, 2026

The film tells the story of Andrew Bagshaw - a British volunteer who died in Ukraine on January 6, 2023 while trying to evacuate an elderly woman from Soledar, a city where fierce fighting was taking place at the time. Andrew was autistic, a brilliant doctor of genetics after the British Cambridge, where with his doctoral thesis he changed the perception of DNA in the scientific world. Finally, in 2023, he was executed by Russian mercenaries from Wagner's flu. The film is an investigative documentary that was one of the elements of collecting evidence to file an official case at the International Criminal Court in The Hague as a war crime.

The cinematographer for the film is Sebastian Płocharski — a visual artist, photographer, documentary filmmaker and war correspondent. He has been documenting the social and humanitarian reality of Ukraine for years, and since the full-scale invasion, he has also been working on the front line. After the screening, we invite you to talk about the film, its creation and what we can see when we look at war through a concrete human history.

Sebastian was a friend of the main character and worked with him on the evacuation of civilians in Soledar in 2022.

The film is directed by Bryan Bruce, a New Zealand documentary filmmaker, investigative journalist and bestselling writer.
