Discover how to transform raw astrophotography data into breathtaking images through a complete, practical workflow.
We begin with the data you need to collect, then walk through the full processing pipeline. The core workflow covers One Shot Colour (OSC) cameras – including DSLRs, dedicated astro cameras, and smart scopes such as the ZWO Seestar. We then extend this to monochrome camera workflows with filter wheels and popular narrowband palettes including SHO and HOO.
The talk is illustrated with workflow diagrams, worked examples, and live demonstrations. Software options covered include Siril (free, excellent for beginners) and PixInsight (paid, the tool of choice for advanced imagers).
Max Dobres leads the Astro Imaging group at Guildford Astronomical Society, giving talks and running courses on astrophotography for clubs and educational institutions. He has been observing and imaging the universe for more than 20 years – progressing from portable equipment to a roll-off shed observatory, and then to a remote imaging facility in Chile.
Max is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS) and an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS). His books include:
