Florian Boesch baritone ; Malcolm Martineau piano

Florian Boesch holds audiences spellbound with his ability to switch in a heartbeat from the most delicate, confiding of expressions to hair-raising declamation. The Austrian baritone’s recent recording of Brahms’s 4 Serious Songs with Malcolm Martineau compelled BBC Music Magazine to commend his ‘exemplary attack and a dark grained tone that matches their subject matter’. The duo partnership prefaces Schumann’s Kerner Lieder this evening with 6 Monologues from Jedermann, a gripping song cycle created in 1943 as Frank Martin’s ‘summary’ of Hugo von Hoffmanstahl’s mystery play.
