Folkeklubben & Danmarks Entertainment Orchestra

Over the past 10 years, the Danish Entertainment Orchestra has made the journey from the Concert Hall to the country's largest venues and stages in inspiring, versatile and not least audience-loving collaborations with some of Denmark's best-known pop and rock artists.

If anyone, the Danish Entertainment Orchestra has a wide musical repertoire now, this applies to the songs of the Folk Club, when the whole orchestra goes out to the country with the big-hitting rock trio. Director of the Entertainment Orchestra, John Frandsen, says:

“When we at the Danish Entertainment Orchestra embark on new collaborations, it is crucial for us that the artists have something at heart that we can be inspired by and that we can unfold in a symphonic format. We have no doubt that this is the case with the People's Club. Their songs hold both an intellectual acuity and a broad folk appeal. They're talking to the college songbook and to P3 at the same time. It's a rare combination, and perhaps precisely why their music stands so strongly in our shared consciousness.

The folk club create music with a strong narrative power, and their songs have an inherent grandiosity that almost insists on being put into play with strings, blowers - the full colour palette of the entire symphonic orchestra. We are very much looking forward to that.”

The orchestra is led by conductor David Riddell, long-time artistic director of the Randers Kammerensemble and Aarhus Sommeropera, who has also previously conducted Folkeklubben in a symphonic setting together with the Odense Symphony Orchestra.

Something is at stake. And the three members of the Folkeklubben - Kjartan Arngrim, Rasmus Jusjong and Rasmus Dall - know this when, after a few years of hiatus, they return to the stage again.

“We've been away for a while — from each other and the music — to make room for reflection and calm. Getting back together with the Entertainment Orchestra feels like the right way to reopen the club,” says lead singer Kjartan Arngrim and continues:

“Playing with a symphony orchestra is by no means a Sunday outing. We're going to unleash our songs in an awe-inspiring space that, if anything, represents diligence and contemplation, and it's definitely going to be wildly anxiety-provoking, but hopefully also utterly amazing.”

The folk club made its debut 15 years ago. Their organic, folk-rock pop anthems accommodate the contrasts in all of us - the folksy - and the band is anything but a closed club that embraces the full spectrum. From the 'Denmark' song with Suspekt to 'Danmarksfilm' from Højskolesangbogen. They have hit the airwaves at P3 and Dansktoppen, met the audience in prime time in X Factor and under the open sky with hits like 'Fedterøv' and 'Sort Tulipan'. It has made six albums, most recently the critically acclaimed 'More Than a Club' from 2023.

When Folkeklubben and the Danish Entertainment Orchestra occupy the Concert Hall, it will be a musical meeting between force and timbre. The audience can look forward to a very special concert format, where the interpretations of the band's songs take on new dimensions in the interplay of strings, winds and electric guitars.
