Based on his latest novel Rasmus Nielsohn, author Rasmus Daugbjerg will tell about his use of folk beliefs and fairy tales in his writing. In his books, he gives voices to creatures such as trolls and mermaids, thereby letting nature speak.
About the novelRasmus Nielsohn is a historical novel about a mermaid, a fortress farmer and a divination about Christian the 4th.
On a cold day in December, the fortress farmer Rasmus Nielsohn walks in his field at Besser Rev on Samsø with a heart forked by unrequited love. Out of the sea a creature emerges. Ibrant, a mermaid. She carries on a prediction about the prince who will soon be born, and later becomes Christian the 4th.
Ibrant needs a human to convey the divination to the king. First she must win Rasmus' friendship, but how?
The novel draws freely on a historical source from the late 16th century.
Release date: March 13, 2026.
