Meet Jesper Wung-Sung for a conversation about his acclaimed novel “Sandous Rose”.

About the event

Award-winning author Jesper Wung-Sung has published this spring the critically acclaimed novel “Sandous Rose”.

The novel, which has been called “a courageous reflection of a Danish classic”, is based on one of Denmark's most widely read classics: Martin A. Hansen's “The Liar” from 1950.

In “Rose of Sand”, Wung-Sung has chosen to let the narrator and protagonist be the female part of “The Liar”; the merchant's lovely daughter Annmari. Annemari is the woman that all three men in “The Liar” swarm around — and for good reason. She is independent, strong, intelligent and at the same time young and attractive. At the same time, she is wild and different and she harbors a strong curiosity and determination to seek happiness and live her life outside the small island community.

Wung-Sung herself has also not been able to forget her for the different and modern female figure that she represents in the 1950s, so he has now let her have her own voice.

About Jesper Wung-Sung:
Jesper Wung-Sung must be one of Denmark's most prolific writers. His writing eventually includes a large number of short story collections and novels, as well as several children's and youth books. Common to the many and varied books are the joy of narration, a sense of humor and subtle realism. With a special linguistic sense and great empathy, he brings the reader close to the human drama, most recently in his two novels “Ungdom” (2025) about the young Hans Christian Andersen and “Woman seen from the back” (2025) about the wife and muse of the painter Vilhelm Hammershøi: Ida Hammershøi.

NB. Tickets are non-refundable unless the conditions of the event change.
