About the event

A star who is already shining brightly on the opera firmament, the singer known from many world stages — Freddie De Tommaso — will perform on the Oder River together with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic. This will be the tenor's first visit to Poland. An evening full of sensual and passionate music will be led by maestro Michelangelo Mazza.

Freddie De Tommaso is one of the few tenors to enjoy a permanent contract with the prestigious Decca Classics label. On the album Il Tenore released in 2022, he played the characters of Carmen Don José, the idealistic admirer of Toska Cavaradossi, Pinkerton, the American Navy soldier who abandoned Madame Butterfly, among others. These great roles were created by the singer in venues such as the Opéra national de Paris, the Wiener Staatsoper and the Royal Opera in Covent Garden. Thanks to him, this year we also get to know the missing debut of Umbert Giordano — Marina. Under the baton of the esteemed conductor Michelangelo Mazza, various opera productions and gala concerts were held by such important names as Elīna Garanča and Roberto Alagna. The maestro has performed in Berlin, Palermo, Budapest, as well as Tokyo, Seoul and São Paulo, among others. So it can definitely be said that both artists breathe the beauty of opera on a daily basis.

The first part of the evening will be devoted to the music of Giuseppe Verdi, beloved by the audience. The gala will be opened by musical fireworks from Nabucca, which guaranteed this composer fame. The most beautiful fragments of such masterpieces as the Troubadur, the Ball of the Mask or Aida will sound alongside less frequently performed gems, such as the aria La mia letizia infondere from the opera The Lombards on the First Crusade. After the break, there will be time for the work of the Verists and Neapolitan songs. From the immortal hope of Nessun dorma to the mourning of Come un bel dì maggio to the bitter irony of Vesti la giubba, Freddie De Tommaso will reveal the full range of feelings carried on the wings of the male hero's inspiration. The nostalgic Tu ca nun chiagne or the amorous I' te vurria vasà — one of the most popular melodies created in the shadow of Vesuvius — depart not far from this stylistic style. There is no doubt that this evening a breeze from the Tyrrhenian Sea will reach Wrocław...
