Funk Ikoner

We invite you to the evening to the rhythm of the greatest hits of funk and soul! Blue Jazz Orchestra together with Paulina Gołębiowska will present “Funk Icons” — a concert dedicated to artists whose music has filled the dance floors around the world for decades.

Funk music, growing out of the African-American tradition of rhythm and blues and soul, from the beginning gave space to express one's own identity, and danciness was an inherent element of it. This evening we will reach for the repertoire of James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire. Next to the classics, there will be contemporary versions of funk and soul from the repertoire of PJ Morton, Tuxedo or Cory Wong.

“Funk Icons” is a nod to the masters of the genre.

The special guest of the concert will be Paulina Gołębiowska — vocalist and lecturer in jazz vocals, doctor of musical arts, semi-finalist of the 12th edition of “The Voice of Poland” and winner of the title “Discovery of the Year” in the “Blues Top” poll of “Twój Blues” magazine in 2025. She has performed at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the NFM in Wrocław and the NOSPR in Katowice, as well as at the festivals “Jazz on the Odra” and “JazzTage” in Görlitz. She has collaborated with Urszula Dudziak, Marcin Wyrostek and Jennifer Batten. He regularly performs with orchestras and Big Band of the University of Zielona Góra, and since 2025 he co-creates the Silessian Hammond Group. He also conducts national and international vocal workshops.
