About the event

On Saturday 10 October 2026 at 17:00 we invite you to the monodrama of Agnieszka Przepiórska “Jadwiga” and the gala presentation of the Upper Silesian Literary Prize “Juliusz”.

The event is held by invitation. The pool of free tickets available at the box office of the community center.

JADWIGA monodrama by Agnieszka Przepiórska; text: Piotr Rowicki, director: Anna Gryszczówna, music: Piotr Skotnicki, scenography and costumes: Matylda Kotlińska, choreography: Karolina Kraczkowska, lighting: Michał Głaszczka

If you were to look for one word that could try to describe the life of Jadwiga Stańczakova, it would be the word: shadow.

Loss of vision, entry into the shadows. Father's shadow. A shadow of Jewish origin.

Shadow of the ghetto. Shadow of a lost brother and friends. Shadow of Miron Białoszewski. Shadow of depression.

In one word, however, you cannot describe your whole life. Because the path of the darkened Jadwiga Stańczakova is also an unimaginable, arduous and often hopeless struggle to get out of the shadows.

From every shade. For clarity. To your own creativity, to your own self, to self-determination, self-acceptance and to decide your destiny. About the fate of a woman, mother, grandmother, journalist and poet.

She said to herself, “I'm blind.” And she was one of the first to dare to write about vision loss and depression, as no one had written at the time.

The monodrama, performed by Agnieszka Przepiórska, is not a story about the life of a forgotten, sick poet, whom literary scholars have classified as “the one from Miron”.

This is a poetic journey about a woman brave, brave, tough and sensitive at the same time, with wide horizons and interests, seeing much more and further than most, to whom it seemed that everything was fine with their eyes.

It's riding barefoot, on a flying carpet, to the stars, to the colors, to the green.

Agnieszka Przepiórska: This is not a role in the classical sense, I'm not just trying to play Jadwiga, I'm trying to get closer to her inner world, to the way she experienced reality: people, poetry, silence. I try to get closer to her sense of vision through words, sounds, presence. For me, Jadwiga was a poet who heard the world so deeply and in such tones that the mere attempt to approach this feeling moves me.

I don't want to “play” her. I don't want to create characters. I'm looking for an experience—a real, tender encounter with what might have been in it. With the silence that she carried inside. With the courage to be yourself. It's a huge challenge, but an even greater honor to be able to carry this story. The story of an extraordinary woman.
