Gdynia without censorship — criminals, scammers and scandalous romances. Meeting with Krzysztof Chalimoniuk

As part of the November meeting of the DKK, we invite you to an author's meeting with Dr. Krzysztof Chalimoniuk about the author's new book: “Gdynia without censorship — criminals, fraudsters and scandalous romances” .Cheeky frauds, suspicious businesses, betrayals and love affairs — interwar Gdynia provided sensations that ignited the imagination of the inhabitants. In a rapidly growing port city, great ambition was met with greed, and passions could ruin a carefully built reputation.

We invite you to the Chylonia Library for an encounter with the dark and spicy side of the city's history. We will meet Gdynia criminals, clever hoodlums and fraudsters who preyed on someone else's naivety. We will also hear about manners scandals and romances in which feelings were mixed with money, jealousy and a fight for a good name.

It's a story about people who crossed the boundaries of law and decency — and a city where the pursuit of fortune and happiness often ended in compromise.

About the author:

Dr. Krzysztof Chalimoniuk — historian, employee of the Library of Knowledge, author of the Facebook series “From the archive of the Library of Knowledge” and “Eyes and ears of Gdynia”, as well as host of podcasts “Sea stories — conversations about Gdynia”, realized by the Library of Knowledge. Together with Dr. Jarosław Drozd, responsible for the development of the publications “Situational reports of the Government Commissioner in Gdynia 1929-1939” and “Archival sources to the history of the port in Gdynia”. His work is also “History of the Port of Gdynia”.
