“Gdynia. Fordewind” is a theatrical story about a city in constant motion, driven by the wind of ambition, dreams and modern promises. It tells about man, his memory, fear and transformation. It is the fordewind — the seemingly ideal wind, carrying exactly where we want to flow, but harboring real danger — that becomes the key metaphor of the spectacle. The real stories of the heroes of the reportage are intertwined with the fictional ones called by the author of the adaptation. The developers peer into the coastal basements, knock on the windows of the developers and take the viewers on a journey, the rhythm of which is set by the singing and swaying of the waves. There is no shortage of playful tone, singing and dancing in the narration.
About the event
The performance was created as part of the celebration of the hundredth birthday of Gdynia. It is a theatrical gift for the city, and at the same time the first full-cast proposal of the new direction of the Municipal Theater in Gdynia, which aims to promote Polish literature and dramaturgy and to create a theater that talks about history and contemporary identity using current languages and conventions, in a full spectrum of genres.
