“I remember her gentle laughter at dinner. I remember her stroking my hair. I remember her struggling to maintain a smile as I watched the twinkle disappear in her eyes. I remember the first time I thought something wasn't as it should be.”
The performance Genklang illuminates the difficult feelings one can experience as a relative of someone with dementia. The audience is invited into a sensual and musical universe where two sisters fight a battle to maintain their relationship with their mother, who is afflicted with dementia. Through physical and poetic scenes, they portray both the care, the presence, the grief and the powerlessness that has its hold on them as dementia slowly obliterates their mother.
