Irish Gilla Band returns to the Flea on January 27, 2027 with their manic, noisy post-punk and ferocious, chaotic live energy!

The concert is presented in collaboration with smash! bang! pow! , and ticket sales start on Friday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m.

The Gilla Band (formerly Girl Band) has been at the forefront of contemporary, Irish, alternative music since 2011. With squealing guitar noise, heavy techno drum beats and yearning vocals paired with frontman, Dara Kiely's, witty, profane and often surreal lyrics, the Gilla Band has for over 10 years had post-punk fans the world over in the palm of their hand in their dark, intense sonic universe.

In 2015, the group signed with Rough Trade Records and released their debut album 'Holding Hands With Jamie' to rave reviews. After 4 years hiatus, they returned in September 2019 with their second studio album, 'The Talkies', announced which the press hailed as being a “more abstract and more focused album than their debut”.

Their latest album 'Most Normal', released in 2022, has been described as “otherworldly walls of pure chaos” and “a masterpiece of panic and deconstruction” by Pitchfork. Evidently, the album AGAIN was shame-praised by the critics, particularly for Kiely's humorous songwriting and razor-sharp wordplay, which stand in stark contrast to the almost manic instrumentation that inhabits a liminal space between rave and raw, unpolished noise rock.

Shortly after the release of 'Most Normal', we also had the exquisite pleasure of having Gilla Band's ferocious live show pass the Flea - a concert that we still remember as absolutely electrifying, and which the Danish independent music media Undertones awarded 5 out of 6 stars.

Now the Like Band are back with their first new single in four years, “Giraffe,” which premiered on BBC Radio 6 on May 27. “Giraffe” is a culmination and at the same time a breath of fresh air to the Gilla Band's musical vision - it's not quite postpunk, it's not quite noise rock, it's not really anything beyond an idiosyncratic, cutting-edge hybrid genres that can only be created by the Gilla Band. We can't wait to be blown backwards by the Gilla Band again on January 27, 2027!
