“How are things going with Paul,” Marie asks. “Good,” says Karin. But that is not true. Paul is gone. Wickwalz calls it “republic flight” and, by the way, it's happening more frequently now. He is nice and asks Karin questions. Whether Paul said anything. What he said. That you can see familiar people when they're lying. And anyway, anyone who loves doesn't go away. In her much-acclaimed debut novel “Gittersee,” Charlotte Gneuss tells the story of 16-year-old Karin, who is pulled out of her youthful everyday life without warning. It awakens in a world in which truth and falsehood are equally decreed by the state. A world in which she soon longs not to know the truth at all — so as not to be able to betray it.
About the event
Charlotte Gneuss, born in Ludwigsburg in 1992, studied social work in Dresden, literary writing in Leipzig and scenic writing in Berlin. In her texts, Gneuss repeatedly approaches the GDR, the reality and the utopia in which her parents grew up and which no longer exists today. The material is brought to the stage by the young director Leonie Rebentisch, who is staging for the first time in the Neues Haus.
