Godajom mi Helmut, Sławomir Rosowski, text: Alojzy Lysko
Godajōm mi Helmut is an extremely moving and touching story taken from the famous war epic Ghosts of War by Alojzy Lyska, known in Upper Silesia, as well as the famous monodrama “Mianujom mie Hanka” by the Korez Theatre.
Helmut, whose role was masterfully played by amateur actor, retired miner from Bieruń, Sławek Rosowski, talks about his life after the loss of his father, who “got lost” somewhere on the front called to serve in the German army. The hero of the story experienced everything that an orphan can experience in wartime: longing for a missing father, happy years growing up next to his grandfather, contempt from the other father, who was not a Silesian, great love for a local girl and many other, mostly painful events. The ending of this story is surprising. In addition to the verbal story, this performance features a musical tale, which Francis Moscow wins and sings on the accordion. “Hey! wella danaju czorny las...” stanza after stanza runs and... shakes to tears. As befits Tyyater kery godo, both the hero and the accordionist from the first words to the end of godajōm after ours. Alojzy Lyska's magnificent Silesian text, outstanding acting creation, unique live music, penetrate the hearts of listeners to the depths. From the first act, this war story keeps the audience in constant tension.
