And fifty thousand lumberjacks, cooks, engineers and executives from all over Poland (then Ludowa), who, like American gold diggers once, traveled hundreds of kilometers in the hope of a new, better life.

“Iron Fever” is a Zagłębie western inspired by real and fictional stories related to the construction of the Katowice Steel Plant. Performed in the picturesque spaces of the Zagłębia Palace of Culture, with live music performed by members of the Municipal Wind Orchestra in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

It is the story of people who, on the largest construction site in Europe, struggle with the forces of nature, adversity, their own weaknesses and the absurdities of a centrally controlled economy. Will the smelter allow them to find social advancement, wealth, and perhaps even love? Will it allow dreams to come true, or will it rather become the cause of nightmares? The earth beneath the smelter probably hides secrets that no one will ever reveal again.
