It is also a film that goes one step further: it shows even more strongly that each of us not only lives our own story, but also tells it endlessly to ourselves. Almodóvar makes a moving confession of faith in the power of cinema, memory and narrative.

Pedro Almodóvar returns in top form with one of his most personal films. In “Bitter Christmas” - his first Spanish-language production in 5 years - there is everything that viewers love his cinema for: passion, intense colors, perverse humor and full-blooded characters that escape simple schemes. Actors and actresses known from the director's previous films appear on the screen: Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Victoria Luengo, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Milena Smit and one of Almodóvar's most important muses — Rossy de Palma.

SCREENING AS PART OF A BARRIER-FREE CINEMA
From October we invite you to regular film screenings as part of the project “Cinema without barriers”. These sessions can also be attended by people with different needs, including people with disabilities.

We want cinema to be a place accessible to the widest possible audience. Therefore, during the shows we will use various accessibility tools, such as audio description, extended subtitles or translation into Polish Sign Language (PJM).

As part of the project, direct contact with the audience and getting to know their real needs is particularly important for us. Thanks to this, we can better select and check solutions that actually facilitate participation in the sessions.

What will the shows look like?

Videos will be presented with:

audio description, that is, a verbal description of what is happening on the screen,
translation into Polish Sign Language (PJM),
extended captions containing additional information, including identifying speakers and describing relevant sounds and events on the screen, e.g. [door slamming].

For audio description purposes, we provide receivers for viewers. During screenings, you can also use the Barrier-free Cinema 2.0 application.

Shows will be held regularly:

every second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m.
every third Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m.

About the project

Activities within the project “Cinema without barriers” will be carried out until spring 2027 in cooperation with five partner cinemas: Echo Cinema in Jarocin, Pionier 1907 Cinema in Szczecin, Oskard Cinema in Konin, Palace Cinema in Poznań and Leszek Kopcia Film Center in Gdynia.

The project is being implemented thanks to funding granted by the Europa Cinemas network as part of the Collaborate to Innovate 2026 program, aimed at developing and strengthening the position of cinemas.

The project is co-financed by the European Union (Creative Europe: Europa Cinemas - Collaborate to Innovate) and the budget of the City of Poznań at the ZAMEK Cultural Centre in Poznań.
