GRETA

The project “Greta” combines theater with a documentary film.

The performance is accompanied by a photographic exhibition Let's Go to the Barricades of the K.D.A. Activist Journalism Channel. Agnieszka Jakimiak and Mateusz Atman, in cooperation with Teatr Ochoty, explore the potential of combining performing arts and activism. As they themselves write:

“Art without community is only an echo; community without art has no voice. Our work is a shared space for engaging art and engaged people.” In the process of preparing its latest premiere, the acting team meets people associated with Warsaw activism and tries to get to know their personal perspective. The title “Greta” symbolically refers to the character of Greta Thunberg — a modern superhero, catalyst of the global climate movement. Greta represents sensitivity and courage, clarity in a world in crisis. The artistic project involves a two-step process that transcends the boundaries of traditional theater and fits into the spirit of positive action.

The first stage is innovatively conducted trials, which take the form of open air workshops.

Open-air rehearsals open to the willing (and sometimes also to casual passers-by) become workshops, and workshops - civic action. In this way, the very process of artistic exploration becomes a spectacle. Each meeting is a form of creative activism: an exercise, an educational walk, a living sculpture, a performative gesture. When art does not fit on stage, it means it works.

The second stage is a documentary performance for young people and adults, which not only summarizes previous activities, but becomes their vehicle — full of traces of emotions and community experience. It is a living artistic and social organism that breathes the rhythm of the city, pulsates with the forces of nature and is born before the eyes of the public. Activism is theater without a curtain. “Greta” is an examination of how the art of theater can come to life in our environment.
