WOJCIECH GROBORZ

Jazz pianist, arranger, composer and teacher Wojtek Groborz has been touring the music scene since 1975, when he led his big band at the opening concert of Krakowskie Zaduszki Jazzowe. He made himself known by playing with Jarosław Śmietana's band Extra Ball, and for the last 20 years he has been touring the world with Jan Kudyk's Jazz Band Ball Orchestra. However, he is also active all the time as the leader of his own formations - mainly Tria, a band that has been filling the places of its performances with the audience for 8 years.

A graduate of the Krakow Academy of Music, he has more than thirty years of experience on the jazz scene. A student of Barry Harris and Hal Galper, he is also an esteemed lecturer and teacher of jazz music. He is currently involved in the newly established jazz department of his home university.

GROBORZ TRIO

Groborz Trio presents an original style of bebop with elements of Afro-Cuban music — as if in reference to the words of Jelly Roll Morton: “all good jazz had to have a Latin Tinge”. The carefully selected repertoire includes both more and less well-known original jazz compositions (including many of Dizzy Gillespie's compositions), standards in new, fresh-sounding arrangements, as well as leader compositions — lyrical ballads and expressive Latin songs. Vitality, elegance, mastery, rare, uncompromising stylistic purity and swinging rhythm make each Trio concert an unforgettable musical event.
