Groovosophers was formed in Krakow in 2023, continuing the tradition of the Goddard Quartet/Quintet.
created in 1997 at a jazz workshop in Chodziez (composed by Filip Goddard Wyrwa — guitar, Tomasz
Karaszewski — saxophone, Błażej Chochorowski — bass, SebasRan Perłowski — drums; Dorota also performed with the band
Zaziąbło on piano and Artur Jochym on bass guitar). Goddard recorded three demo albums and participated in
recording an album by singer Robert Gałuszczyński, performed in clubs in Krakow and many other Polish cities (with achievements
— the band performed at FeSRWAL Jazz nad Odrą in 1998 and took 1st place in the category of instrumental ensembles
at the FeSRWAL in Proszowice in 1999).
In January 2023, Filip Wyrwa met at a concert of the Hammond Quartet with Grzegorz Madej (with whom
had the pleasure to perform at the concert on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of MDK at Lotnicza Street in Krakow in 2019 in Piwnica Pod
Rams with Krakow musicians: Jacek Korohoda, Jacek Chruściński, Tomek Grochot and Marek Smoek
Rajss, as well as at the Mogilski Roundabout in Krakow in 2021 with Janusz Baran Band). One phone call later, Tomasz Karaszewski joined the band on saxophones (a graduate of the Jazz and Entertainment Music Faculty of the Academy of Music in Katowice).
Filip Wyrwa also called Filip Kuźmiński, with whom they co-created the Xposure team in 2013-2017.
The last unknown remained the drummer's stool. Quite unexpectedly, at the concert Czarno Białe Ślady, about the idea
about returning to playing jazz/fusion music, he told Grzegorz Bauer, who liked the idea, and with whom in the years
2009-2012 they played in the band Twelve Moons, while in 2021 they recorded an album with the project of keyboardist Przemysław
Piekarza LEM (from which they performed, among others, at the FeSrwal of Progressive Rock in Toruń in 2022, and this album was
honored with the Robert “Ro-Ro” Roszak Award for the best Polish phonograph of the year 2021
performers).
Interestingly, Grzegorz Madej, Grzegorz Bauer and Filip Wyrwa attended the Krakow Jazz School in the 1990s and
Entertainment Music conducted by Grzegorz Motyka.
After 20 years and 11 days since the last concert of the Goddard Quartet, we are moving to 2023, in which it will be
with a new sign and in a renewed composition (with Hammond organs!) , the Groovosophers team began work on the author's
compositions, also known from the repertoire of the Goddard band and the standards of jazz and fusion music in the author's arrangements
(from the repertoire of artists such as John Scofield, Chick Corea, John Coltrane and Jimmy Smith)
