There are melodies that can stop the daily rush for a moment. There are words that come back years later and sound a little different each time. This spring, such pieces will sound on the police stage, and they will be performed by Grzegorz Turnau — an artist whose work has been delighting with musical finesse and poetic sensitivity for more than four decades.
At the Municipal Cultural Centre, Grzegorz Turnau will perform with the band to create a poetic performance on stage that grows out of a combination of subtle sounds, a magnetizing voice, words that carry emotions and silence that creates a space for experiencing. It will be an evening in which sophisticated compositions will meet great poetry, and everyday thoughts will acquire an unobvious, reflective dimension. Such a unique artistic setting will evoke melancholy, move and allow the memory to return to beautiful memories. Because Grzegorz Turnau is a singer, composer and pianist who for more than 40 years has delighted with his tenderness towards the world, his subtle balance between emotions and a unique language in which he uses the sound of words, their multiplicity of meanings and melody.
This extraordinary musical story has its beginning in Krakow. It was there, in 1984, that the young Grzegorz Turnau won the 20th Student Song Festival, performing “We Wander Again” to the words of Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. A short time later, Piotr Skrzynecki invited him to the Piwnica pod Baranami, with which the artist tied thirteen years of his creative path. Since then, scenes, projects and musical encounters have changed, but one thing has not changed — Turnau's unique ability to combine music with poetry so that one does not exist without the other. Over the following decades, more original songs and albums were created, and the characteristic style of the artist gained an ever wider audience. Today, his work includes 17 albums with his own repertoire and three albums dedicated to interpretations of works by other artists. With his band, he has already played nearly 3,000 concerts, meeting numerous singers, instrumentalists and orchestras on his musical journey. His work was also appreciated many times — the artist's account included, among others, nine Fryderyk, Grand Prix of the Opole Festival and two Wiktors.
During the concert, planned especially on the occasion of Women's Day, songs that have become permanently inscribed in the history of the Polish song will be played — “Bracka”, “Cichosza”, “Międzia cisża a cisża” or “Truly nie się nie się nic”. Performed by the artist and his ensemble, they will acquire concert energy, while preserving what has been the uniqueness of Turnau's music for years — artful compositions, the beauty of words, the characteristic sound of the piano and the subtle story of human emotions.
Words, simple and sublime at the same time, and melodies that soothe the senses will become the best gift for women on their holiday. And they will make a musical evening with a great artist become a flash that happens only here and now.
