Summer 1982 in London. The city rocked. Punk and rockabilly are turning into a new genre of music: PSYCHOBILLY. More than just a genre of music, a lifestyle.
Many young urban rockabillies shave their hair off their sides, put on Doc Martens and Domestos jeans and listen to music from the Stingrays, the Sharks, Restless or the Ricochets. At this time, a young singer named Pip Hancox meets a brilliant guitarist who goes by the name Stuart Osborne. Together they found one of the first psychobilly bands: The GUANA BATZ. This quartet was to become the most successful band in the genre. They quickly made a name for themselves on the scene and quickly became known. Everyone who has anything to do with this music knows her first longplayer “Held Down at Last”. Her single “I'm on Fire” (Bruce Springsteen) is the best-selling single on the psychobilly scene and rose to the top ten of the European independent charts. In the early 90s, things became a bit quieter around the band because Pip Hancox moved to the USA. There were rumors of a disbandment, but in 1995 they came back to play at Wildcat Weekend in Berlin. Since then, they have appeared on German stages at irregular intervals. Mainly seen at festivals, but there was also a short tour from time to time. In March 2018, the boys released a new record for the first time in 20 years. “Back to the Jungle” has been released on Tombstone Records. Some tracks from this new album will be heard live. You can be excited. Of course, the old gassenhauer, including “King Rat”, will also be heard. Don't miss it.
