Guy Davis (US)

Guy Davis is a living legend in blues, folk and Americana, known for his virtuosic guitar playing and soulful vocals. The U.S. Grammy-winning musician has shared the stage with icons like Bruce Springsteen, Chuck Berry and B.B. King and this fall he'll be hosting ALICE's stage with an intimate solo concert.

Guy Davis is not just one of the great masters of blues music. He is a musical narrator who manages to create a melting pot of diverse genres ranging from traditional blues to folk, gospel and americana. His skillful fingerplaying on the guitar and soulful vocals create an authentic and immersive expression in a live repertoire of his own songs as well as beautiful interpretations of timeless classics.

Davis grew up in 1950s and '60s New York as the son of the famous actors and prominent civil rights advocates, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. The fight for justice, the acting and the creative environment he grew up in shaped him as a storyteller — something he uses as a supporting element in his music. Davis is also an award-winning actor and composer himself. He received a US Grammy in 2017, has played with icons such as Bruce Springsteen, Chuck Berry, Don McClean, Pete Seeger, John Denver and B.B. King, and has twice had the great honor of performing for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Albert Hall and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Not least, Davis is eminently on stage with his guitar, so we are thrilled to be able to introduce him to October when he guests ALICE with an intimate solo concert.
