“Hakuna matata” — in Swahili, means “no problem” and has become one of the most recognizable African phrases in the world. During the concert from the Choir-Mastowsko series! it will become an invitation to a musical journey through the diverse traditions of Africa — full of rhythm, community singing and extraordinary energy.

During the concert together with the Silesian Philharmonic Choir conducted by Grzegorz Oliwa, Krzysztof Nowakowski will also perform — a drummer specializing in ethnic and contemporary music, whose instrumentation will enrich the choral sound with characteristic African rhythms and colors.

The program will bring together works by composers from different parts of the world, inspired by the culture of Africa. We will hear both contemporary works and elaborations of traditional songs, showing the richness of African musical traditions and their influence on contemporary choral work.

A special place will be occupied by fragments of the Missa luba — one of the most famous choral works inspired by African music. Created in the 1950s, the Mass combines the Latin liturgical text with melodies, rhythms and ways of singing derived from the traditions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Thanks to its extraordinary energy and originality, it quickly gained international popularity, becoming one of the symbols of the meeting of the European sacred tradition with the culture of Africa.

The program will also feature songs by Daniel Elder, Tracy Wong, Ephraim Amu, Daniel Jackson and other artists who draw on local singing traditions, languages and rhythms of different regions of the continent. Alongside lyrical reflections, there will be compositions full of dance pulse, vibrancy and joy of making music together.

The concert will be an opportunity to discover the extremely colorful world of choral music, in which the voice becomes not only an instrument of artistic expression, but also a symbol of community, stories and celebrations of life.
