Stanisław Moniuszko's “Halka” is considered one of the most important operas in our country, which brought the composer fame. After the premiere of the four-act version of “Halka” in Warsaw in 1858, Stanisław Moniuszko gained the title of “father of Polish national opera” and the status of one of the most important Polish composers. For the Silesian Opera “Halka” has a symbolic meaning, because from this title began the history of the Bytom theater, which was the first to stage an opera performance after the Second World War. Since then, the title has been a constant guest in the repertoire. After memorable jubilee productions directed by Maria Fołtyn and Henryk Konwiński, Sławomir Żerdzicki, Marek Weiss-Grzesiński, this year the direction and choreography was entrusted to Emil Wesołowski.
