With the DR Symphony Orchestra's Brass Blowers
DR Symphony Orchestra
There is something about the sound of brass blowing that is inextricably linked with both Christmas and New Year — and in Trinitatis Church it is allowed to unfold in full bloom when the DR Symphony Orchestra's 15 brass blowers, drums and percussion fill the beautiful church room with music hand-picked for both the church and the feast.
Beneath the church's baroque angels in gold and marble meet some of the most brilliant festive tones in music history: Handel's festive Fireworks Suite and Baroque music by Bach and Gabrieli stand side by side with Richard Strauss's equally celebratory Festmusik der Stadt Wien. And when percussion and percussion join trumpets, horns, trumpets and tubas, the music takes on extra shine and heaviness in the unique acoustics of Trinitatis Church.
With them are the internationally renowned Belgian trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts, a regular guest of Trinitatis during the Christmas season, who this evening both sings, conducts and even puts the trumpet to his mouth.
And without Christmas, of course, it won't be: along the way, the whole church is invited to sing along to two Danish Christmas carols with organ accompaniment — in the midst of an evening of Baroque splendor, brass tones and a strong touch of Christmas and New Year.
