What happens to music when it is created among sculptures from antiquity? What does it leave in the sound when a composer spends two months in a museum room, surrounded by figures trapped in eternity?
In This Room was written during Hannah Schneider's residency at Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen, where the historical spaces shaped both composition and soundscape. The result, according to reviewer Erik Jensen, is “endlessly beautiful in all its black-tinted mood”: violins and cellos slipping in and out of electronics and synthesizers, in a meeting between bygone times and a very contemporary melancholy.
The album was celebrated with two sold-out concerts at the museum - reviewed with 5 stars in GAFFA. Now Hannah Schneider brings In This Room to Studio 3 in the DR Koncerthuset, where the piece unfolds in a new space and weaves in and out of music from her back catalogue. With her on stage she has the string trio Toechter, pianist Christian Balvig and multi-instrumentalist Sven Meinild.
Hannah Schneider has released several critically acclaimed solo albums, toured Europe and the United States, and created works for leading cultural institutions in Denmark. In Studio 3, we invite the audience into the music room — close to one of Danish music's most original voices.
