Helene Weigel has left behind an incredible legacy. From the “noisiest actress in Berlin,” who became a theatre star in the capital at the beginning of the 1920s, to director of the Berlin ensemble, who had old military equipment installed as theatre technology. She was a maker who wasn't too good for anything. With great sensitivity, director Maria Wischnewski also talks about the private side of her highly political life. With new archival material, personal letters and flanked by contemporary witnesses, including Katharina Thalbach, Johanna Schall and Manfred Karge, a clever portrait of the artistic-intellectual symbiosis between Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel is created. Watch the film, which was also shot at the Berliner Ensemble, at the place where she worked before it was released.
