FROM RUINS
Young man in times of crisis
Hendrik Bolz writes about a young man in crisis, about an arrival in Berlin at the end of the noughties and about the failure to adapt to a puzzling value system. A bright and at the same time subtle look at a time that has become our present.
From Stralsund to Zehlendorf, from prefabricated buildings to a campus full of left-wing alternative West German middle class kids. In the news, bank bailouts and austerity, in the inbox text messages from new acquaintances who seem somewhat interested but expect something different from a friend or partner than what they have on offer. So it's still called: two or three beers as soon as something seems to be raining inside, and if someone gets stupid, you have to go for it.
“A text that looks gently at the harshness that shapes our present tense.” Alice Hasters
Hendrik Bolz, born in 1988 in Leipzig, grew up in Stralsund and later moved to Berlin. He put one degree in the sand, completed another one and finally made his breakthrough with the band Zuzogen Maskulin. Today, he is, among other things, the host of the award-winning podcast “Springerstiefel” and a freelance author. His debut “The Noughties” was a bestseller.
