A photo captures you from the chain of individual moments, captures them and makes them timeless. But how did this moment come about and what happened afterwards? In this workshop, we take a very personal look behind the scenes: First, the participants take a close look at the Carrie Mae Weems exhibition. After an introduction to the world of the artist, who deals extensively with questions of cultural identity, patriarchy and social belonging, they select an image in groups. They then think about how the captured moment came about or what happened next. They then record their own version of the story before or after the picture in a video work. No previous experience is required.
About the event
Greta Markurt works as a camerawoman in film and theatre — preferably where the two mix and rearrange work processes and formal languages. She was involved in productions at the Berliner Ensemble, the Volksbühne and the Deutsche Oper as well as in numerous short films and music videos. She is currently filming her first 90-minute experimental documentary, which gives physical form to the inner worlds of a group of young people in Nordhausen, Thuringia.
Pola Kapuste works visually with collages and stop-motion techniques and writes journalistically and fictitiously. Her work has been published in Das Wetter Magazin, Der Zeit, Der Spiegel and Fluter, among others. After reporting from Mexico as a freelance foreign correspondent for a year, she now focuses primarily on working in film. As a screenwriter, director and editor, she has found a way to combine language and image. Her third short film MADONNAS was made during a residency in Taranto, Italy and was shown at festivals in Paris, Beijing and Ulan Bator, among others.
