When David Bowie went on tour, he always traveled with his mobile library. It held up to 1,500 books. Literature was a never-ending source of inspiration for the pop star. In addition to classics such as Dante Alighieri's Inferno, many novels, such as by Christa Wolf or Alfred Döblin, also play a central role in Bowie's musical work.
Alexander Scheer, who has repeatedly filled theatre stages and cinema screens with big roles, goes on a literary and musical search for clues with his band. The Berliner Ensemble is the right place for this Bowie homage, because: David Bowie not only lived in Berlin-Schöneberg between 1976 and 1978 — he was also a theatre-goer and spectator in BE. “Heroes” is a reading and concert, a homage to the city of Berlin marked by upheavals, its reverberation in world literature and the great songs that David Bowie gave to the whole world.
Please note: Strobe effects are used in this production.
