DR Symphony Orchestra

Lutosławski's spectacular Concerto for Orchestra demands an orchestra of absolute excellence — at once individual, characterful and harmonically cohesive. Still, this exuberant work on the composer's part was not just a celebration of the virtuosity of the orchestra, but also a defiant marking in Soviet-era Poland.

There is no piano concerto quite like Brahms's 2nd, which can appear one moment as the most stirring chamber music and the next as a monumental symphony. The work continues a long tradition of solo concerts that explore how an individual can soothe and excite his fellow human beings, here in a combination of dreamy dialogue and immersive excitement.

German pianist Martin Helmchen, a musician on his way to becoming a true world man at the piano, meets the most promising young British conductor in a generation, Adam Hickox, in a concert that will showcase the DR Symphony Orchestra's ability to both dazzle and move.

Extras on Fridays
After the concert you can linger in the foyer for a half-hour 'Extranummer', where you can get closer to the musicians of the DR Symphony Orchestra and experience them playing together in more intimate settings. For the 'Extranummer', the bar is open, the lights are dimmed and the musicians themselves have composed the programme and talk about the music. The 'Extranummer' takes place in the lobby of DR Koncerthuset and is included in the concert ticket.
