Hiddensee in the Baltic Sea has always been a place where people sought freedom. The film takes you on a journey through an entire century, beginning in the golden 1920s, and interweaves the landscape, history and personal fates of the island into a fascinating portrait. Then as now, the political upheavals that shook Germany have left their mark.
