Where did the playing cards actually come from? How have they changed over the centuries and why do the decks used in different parts of Europe look different?
On 20 October we invite you to a meeting with Dariusz Machałek — a collector and passionate about playing cards, who will tell about their history, dating back to the European Middle Ages. Initially, handmade and richly decorated cards were an expensive pastime available primarily to the wealthy. However, the development of printing techniques has made them fall under the thatch over time and have become one of the most widespread ways to spend leisure time.
The lecture will be accompanied by slides and presentation of original cards from Dariusz Machałek's collection.
